DIMM023: New Deadlock Heroes!
I've already talked on here about how much I love Deadlock, Valve's newest game which is a third person hero shooter MOBA type thing that they still haven't announced yet.
I have amassed a big group of lovely individuals that I play deadlock with very frequently. I love hanging out with them, but the game had started to get kinda stale for me.
For me it was just because nothing was really happening with the game. Mirage was the most recent hero added to the game, and that was in September (2024). That's not to say they aren't doing anything, but it was starting to get kinda boring.
That was until last friday! (01-17-25) when they added FOUR new heroes. Well not exactly new heroes, they've been playable in the alternative gamemode "Hero Labs" for a while. But now they are actually fully in the base game, and it has rejuvenated me (pun intended).
Let's talk about them:
Vyper
Vyper (previously known as Viper) is literally just a bullet hose snake. She has very few bullets and a crazy fast fire rate. She solves the problem of reloading by slithering around. When you slide in Deadlock, you have infinite ammo, and she has an ability that allows her to slide further and get bonuses for sliding (like bullet and spirit resist). She has a little dagger that slows down the enemies, and a venom that can finish off enemies very well. Her ult turns people into a stone statue for a couple seconds, which I've found to be extremely useful in trying to escape, or stop ultimates. Anyone who kinda just stands in one spot for their ulitmate (Dynamo, Haze, Vindicta, M&K, Bebop, Lash, McGinnis) can just be stoned super easily. Even some moving people like Warden, Ivy, and Wraith you can hit if you're skilled enough (I'm not) She is my favorite of the new heroes added, as I love the schmovement in this game. It's fun to play a character where I feel confident in taking a 1v1 against others.
Calico
Calico is a cat lady. She can turn into a little spirit cat to escape sticky situations, and she has a pounce to get close to enemies and melee them. Her ult is similarly an escape/stalling tool, which is basically just ethereal shift. Overall, she is a fun melee focussed character, which is sorely missing in this game
Holliday
Holliday's name is, I assume, based off of Doc Holliday, who fits the old west cowboy movie archetype very well. She has a revolver that does insane damage on headshot. She has little bounce pads that can launch any player up into the air. When she hits the ground after being launched, she does a little explosion that does damage. She also has rollable gunpowder barrels that she can detonate on the enemies. And her ult is you literally lasso the other players and hold them on your back, while your team hits them. It's kinda like M&K's ult, where you have to rely on your team to finish the job. I love her concept but I am pretty sure that she is broken busted right now so hopefully they fix that.
THE MAGNIFICENT SINCLAIR
THE HERO WITH THE MOST OBNOXIOUS NAME. He is two bickering souls trapped inside of a mannequin that does magic. You can send out this other soul as your assistant, which is a spirit clone of you and does all of your actions. Firing will fire at the same location on both, and shooting a vexing bolt will fire one on both. You can also swap positions with your assistant one singular time, which I've seen many use as an escape tool. There's also the rabbit hex, which turns the enemy into a rabbit for a couple seconds. Rabbits can't shoot or use abilities or melee or anything, which makes them easier to deal with. And one of the coolest abilities is the ult, where you can steal someone else's ultimate and use it yourself. If a Geist sucks away all of your health, you can literally just suck her back immediately. M&K ulting your teammate? M&K them back.
Overall, I love these heroes, and they have really made me fall in love with this game all over again. There're so many more heroes I want to get good at now. My games are so much more dynamic and new. I love it, thanks Volvo.
