DIMM013: Music (that I own)

Previous Blog | Next Blog

I was super stressed out the past 2 days so we're putting this out today, it was supposed to come out on Sunday.

Ok so I've talked about a lot of music, but there's actually a bit more music in my life than just what can be found on Spotify. I own a turntable and many vinyl records because my ability to be a loser knows no bounds.

I started out with a Victrola briefcase record player, (which was really shit but got the job done) and now I've got an AT-LP60X, and it works great for me. I really like to (as cheesy as it is) physically hold the music that I like. Like even if the apocalypse comes tomorrow and spotify is knocked offline, I'll still have my music. Really, vinyl isn't really useful to have nowadays, but it makes me feel good to have it and I think that's reason enough.

I'll just list out the records I've got, because there aren't that many of them. If you click on the links, they are all the designs that I personally have (on discogs click on more images on the top left to see the actual vinyl record).

Good & Evil - Tally Hall
Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum - Tally Hall
April Fools - The Scary Jokes
Burn Pygmalion!!! - The Scary Jokes
The Normal Album - Will Wood
Let's Start Here - Lil Yachty
To Pimp A Butterfly - Kendrick Lamar
Hawaii: Part II - Miracle Musical
Spirit Phone - Lemon Demon
I Am Become Christmas - Lemon Demon

And that's all the ones I've bought brand new. My favorite is the Hawaii: Part II vinyl. I don't really like the color of the vinyl (its brown) but its worth it for the music. Hawaii: Part II is my favorite album of all time (even though its definitely not perfect), so I'm glad to have a physical copy of it. Its also a one of a thousand record, and I own one so get absolutely destroyed. The one with the best music is To Pimp a Butterfly obviously. I can just play that entire record front to back and never want to skip, its so good. Except for sometimes I just won't listen to all of side D, just because it has Mortal Man on it, which is just way too long for my liking.

However I also own a ton of records that are just from the thrift store that were extremely cheap. I bought my HPII album for about $40, the vinyls I buy from the thrift store are 2 dollars each. And even though most of the music is from the 60's, there are some hidden gems in there. I usually just look for an album with a cool cover and get that one, and that sometimes works out. Here are some that were diamonds in the rough

Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano - Claude Bolling
Dimensions in Dynagroove - Various Artists
Persuasive Percussion - Terry Snyder and the All Stars
Love Island - Eumir Deodato
Night Train - Buddy Morrow and his Orchestra
Mood Music for Listening and Relaxation - Various Artists

I think my favorite is Dimensions in Dynagroove, because it was one of the first records I got, and has some pretty good music on it. The one with the best music is probably Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano, which is just so groovy.

Other than that though, most of the albums I get are not great, but its a fun little gamble so that's what I do. Sometimes I get really good music from the 60s, other times I get Accelerated Accordions because it looks funny in the store and its terrible.

Anyways I don't know what I'm gonna talk about next time I think it might actually be even more music stuff.
