DIMM025: Can you hear the music, Robert?

Previous Blog | Next Blog

A lot of the time when I'm making a script, I have an idea of what it is going to be about, and I just kinda walk that way until it ends up working out as a video. Usually after researching and spending time with a topic for a long time, there is something that ties the video all together and makes it worth making / watching.

For example, in the Wiki Video when I found out that Wikia was the same thing as Fandom, that was when I knew that the video was going to be a banger.

Or in my Mace Video when I connected the Mace to the TF2 Market Garden to Operation Market Garden in WWII, that was when I knew it was an actual video. And while that one didn't do well initially, at some point it started popping off for no discernable reason, and now its my fourth most popular video.

It's small things like that, which in essence are small whatever details, that if done right make the video actually work. Its usually some kind of connection that everyone covering this topic has missed. That's what makes a good video, in my mind. Showing how disparate concepts connect in an unintuitive way is what my videos are all about.

Once you find this thing, the whole topic starts to make sense. I feel like Oppenheimer and the particles are flying around me and a can hear the music of the script. I can start to see how this whole thing works.

Anyways all of this is to say that I think I finally found this type of thing in the script I'm currently writing. I can't really give away the details, but it came to me while I was reading (listening) The Big Picture by Ben Fritz while driving. I (don't do this) got out my phone and wrote it down while driving, (seriously don't do that, that's super dangerous just pull over for a second) because everything just clicked in my brain.

This topic that I'm covering has had many articles written about it, and none of them covered this connection that now seems obvious in the current day.

Anyways, I'm sure that if you read the book you could probably guess what the topic is about, but I don't think you'll get the connection. But you will definitely get it in the video.

Also, the main structure for the script is basically done, I just need to massively revise it.
